SHAMED BY A CAT

That is my normal view of the wife's cat.
It is her cat, but it keeps hanging around me.
And really, I would just as soon it went somewhere else.

So!

The crazy cat wants to be with me, and I don't even feed it.
I don't even want to bother with it.  [I know, that's mean of me.]
Did you know, God is not like me.  He wants us to hang around
with him.  To bother him.  In fact, God practically begs us to
come and spend time with him.  But, we would rather do other
things.

My desire should be like that of the Psalmist;

"As a deer longs for a stream of cool water,
so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for you, the living God..."
(Psalms 42:1,2a TEV)

Does this cat want to be with me more than I want to be
with my very creator?  The one who gives me life and
loved me enough to die for me.

Shame on me.

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Instead, when you are invited, go and sit in the
lowest place, so that your host will come to you
and say, 'Come on up, my friend, to a better place'
This will bring you honor in the presence of all the
other guests.  For those who make themselves
great will be humbled, and those who humble
themselves will be made great."
(Luke 14:10,11 GNT)

STILL PONDERING THIS ONE

I know.
The photo above is not spinach.
But someone with my gardening abilities would
not know the difference.

Agnes Sanford was making a point when she gave an illustration.

"We are almost as absurd as the lady who remarked that
she didn't like spinach and she was glad she didn't like
spinach because if she liked it she would eat it and she
didn't want to eat it because she didn't like it."
(THE HEALING LIGHT.  p.50)

When I figure that lady out I will share it with you.

AN OBSERVATION

"I am old now; I have lived a long time,
but I have never seen good people abandoned
by the LORD or their children begging for food.
At all times they give freely and lend to others,
and their children are a blessing."
(Psalms 37:25,26 TEV)

FEELING, EMPTY, RESTLESS, DISCONTENT?

Yes.  It is empty.  It was made to hold something.
And until it does, it will be unfulfilled, empty, restless
and discontent.

You and I are the same way.  We were created to
hold something - God.  And when we do not, we are empty.

Some say it was Emperor Augustus.  Others say it was
St. Augustine who said,

"Thou madest us for Thyself,
and our heart is restless,
until it repose in Thee."

[The Confessions of Augustine
(New York: E.P. Dutton and Co., Inc
1951), p.1.]

We were made for God to abide or live in us.
True contentment comes only when we invite
the creator, Jesus, to come in and take up abode
and control in us.

It was that need that prompted King David to say,

"O God, you are my God,
and I long for you.
My whole being desires you;
like a dry, worn-out, and
waterless land,
my soul is thirsty for you."
(Psalms 63:1 TEV)

Do you want true fulfillment, satisfaction and contentment?
Ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and take over.

TODAY'S PROMISE

"'Do not be worried and upset' Jesus told them,
'Believe in God and believe also in me,
There are many rooms in my Father's house,
and I am going to prepare a place for you.
I would not tell you this if it were not so.
And after I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back and take you to myself,
so that you will be where I am."
(John 14:1-3 GNT)

SOURCE OF STRENGTH

"Don't you know?  Haven't you heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God;
he created all the world.
He never grows tired or weary.
No one understands his thoughts.
He strengthens those who are weak and tired.
Even those who are young grow weak;
young people can fall exhausted.
But those who trust in the LORD for help
will find their strength renewed.
They will run and not get weary;
they will walk and not grow weak."
(Isaiah 40:28 - 31TEV)

HARD WAY TO LEARN

That's Taylor.
He is one of my great grandchildren.
Taylor is a great little guy.  He is not a spoiled brat
like so many kids.  All around, he is obedient, kind, happy
and fun to be around.

However,
Taylor is a kid.  A boy.

Taylor's grandmother, my daughter, has a treadmill.
A treadmill with a motor on it.  Can you beat that.  I
thought the idea was to get exercise, and it has a motor
to do the work for you!  What will they think of next?

Now Taylor has been wanting to use that treadmill for
some time.  But "Nana" has been refusing to let him.
Apparently Taylor can be persistent.  So his grandmother
relented and let him use it.

After showing him how to use it, and the proper settings,
Taylor took off.  After a bit Taylor made a mistake and
turned the speed the wrong way.  Then Taylor found out
that the treadmill could out run him.  The treadmill tumbled
Taylor around and then threw him against the wall hard
enough to put a hole in the wall.

Thank God there were no broken bones.  But there are
large abrasions all over Taylor's body.  He can stand up
with out being on an abrasion.  But he cannot set down
or lay down with out being on one.  The last time I
talked to him - yesterday - he was standing up - in the
car.

Taylor has learned why his grandmother said no.

But hey!
How about you and I.
God our creator and life giver has given us a some
"do's" and "don'ts" for our own good.

Are we listening?

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Then Jesus said to the disciples,
'And so I tell you not to worry about the food
you need to stay alive or about the clothes you
need for your body.  Life is much more important
than food, and the body much more important than
clothes.  Look at the crows: they don't plant seeds
or gather a harvest; they don't have storage rooms
or barns; God feeds them!  You are worth so much
more than birds!'"
(Luke 12:22-24 GNT)

DECEIVING PROPHETS

"My people are deceived by prophets who promise peace to
those who pay them, but threaten war for those who don't.
To these prophets the LORD says, 'Prophets, your day is
almost over; the sun is going down on you.  Because you
mislead my people, you will have no more prophetic visions,
and you will not be able to predict anything.'  Those who
predict the future will be disgraced by their failure.  They
will all be humiliated because God does not answer them."
(Micah 3:5-7 TEV)

TRUE PROSPERITY?

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

Today many of our "religious leaders" exhort us to
follow Christ.  To do what Christ would do.  To give
as Christ would have us to give.  [Especially give.]
And if we will give, we will get.

We all could quote;
"Give, and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together
and running over.  For with the measure you use,
it will be measured to you."
(Luke 6:38 NIV)

WOW!
Lord, where can I give???

Any Christian knows that we are to follow Christ's example.
Even the Apostle Paul said,
"Follow my example, as I follow the
example of Christ."
(1 Corinthians 11:1 NIV)

O.K.
Let's see Christ's example and Paul's example.

"Then a teacher of the law came to him and said,
'Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.'
Jesus replied, 'Foxes have holes and birds of
the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no
place to lay his head."
(Matthew 7:19,20 NIV)

OOOOPS1
Christ was homeless.
Let's try again with the great apostle.

"To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty,
we are in rags, we are brutally treated,
we are homeless."
(1 Corinthians 4:11 NIV)

OH NO!
Paul was homeless too.

Do we have to be homeless to be a Christian?
Of course not.  But it is beginning to look like
we have some misplaced values.

WHAT GOD WANTS

"What I want from you is plain and clear:
I want your constant love,
not your animal sacrifices.
I would rather have my people know me
than burn offerings to me."

SAFETY IN WAR

"An Englishman reports that every man in his regiment
carried with him at all times a printed copy of the Ninety-
first Psalm, which he prayed as continuously as possible.
Not one man was lost from that regiment in four year of
combat."
