SEARCHING

"We read the New Testament and we are so
intent on finding the hidden meanings behind
the facts that we forget to look at the facts
themselves!"

THAT'S JUST LIKE LIFE

What is it?

That is a gate the granddaughter made out of "stuff"
that was laying around.

A gate to where?  Well, no where.
Then, what for?  Oh!  Keep the boggy man out,
I guess.  You would have to ask her, if she knows.
She wanted to make a gate.

You can be sure though,
that it took her and grandpa some effort.
It cost her and grandpa some time.

Let's face it.  She was bored and wanted to do something.

How much of life is just like that.  We do something just
because we want to.  But the reality of it is that it,
does not do us any good.
It does not help anyone else.
And it sure does not do anything to help God's work.

"For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and
only foundation, and no other foundation can be laid.
Some will use gold or silver or precious stones in
building on the foundation;
others will use wood or grass or straw.
And the quality of each person's work will be seen
when the Day of Christ exposes it.  For on that Day
fire will reveal everyone's work; the fire will test it
and show its real quality.
If what was built on the foundation survives the fire,
the builder will receive a reward.
But if your work is burnt up, then you will lose it;..."
(1 Corinthians 3:11-15 TEV)

THOUGHTS FROM ABOVE

"Turn to the Lord and pray to him,
now that he is near.
Let the wicked leave their way of life
and change their way of thinking.
Let them turn to the LORD, our God:
he is merciful and quick to forgive.
'My thoughts,' says the LORD,
'are not like yours,
and my ways are different from yours.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.'"
(Isaiah 55:6-9 TEV)

A LESSON FROM LIFE

It took may years.  But I have learned a few things
from life.

One of the things I have learned is that;

"Most people do not communicate.
They just turn there mouth on and
let it run."

Even God has something to say about that.

"I tell you, on the day of judgment men
will rendere account of every careless word
they utter;
for by your words you will be justified,
and by your words you will be condemned."
(Matthew 12:36,37 RSV)

"Be not rash with your mouth,
nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God,
for God is in heaven, and you upon earth;
therefore let your words be few."
(Ecclesiastes 5:2 RSV)

May I learn something from my observation.

HOARDED RICHES

"There is buried in gold and silver plate
and useless ornaments, within Christian
homes, enough to build a fleet of 50,000
vessels, ballast them with Bibles, and
crowd them with missionaries; build a
church in every destitute hamlet, and
supply every living soul with the Gospel
within a score of years."

UNPREPARED

"'All my possessions for a moment of time.'
cried Queen Elizabeth when dying."

"'I have provided for everything in the course of my life
except death, and now, alas! I am to die unprepared.'
were the last words of Cardinal Borgia."

From
Two Hundred Select Illustrations
by Stuart P. Garver, B.D.
p.38

God said,

"For what shall it profit a man,
if he shall gain the whole world,
and lose his own soul"
Or what shall a man give in exchange
for his soul?"
(Mark 8:36,37 KJV)

When life's closing day came,
a Queen and a Cardinal failed at life.

Are you prepared to do better?

TODAY'S PROMISE

"'But I will bless the person who puts his trust in me.
He is like a tree growing near a stream
and sending out roots to the water.
It is not afraid when hot weather comes,
because its leaves stay green;
it has no worries when there is no rain;
it keeps on bearing fruit."
(Jeremiah 17:7,8 TEV)

MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN

This is a couple I know.
I feel their's is a marriage that was made in heaven.

They are fitted for each other like a hand and a glove.
They genuinely love each other.
They have a common God given goal in life.

But you and I know,
that if they don't live together,
their marriage will fail.

There is another marriage being made in heaven.

God of course does things on a grandiose scale.
That is why he created the universe.
That is why he created the earth
That is why he created the human race.

God wants a numberless race of human beings to be his
marriage partner for ever.  From this earth full of people he
is pulling out a people for himself.

You may believe in God.
You may love God.
You may have summited (married) yourself to God.

But if you go your own way and will not live with God daily.
What makes you think your relationship with God
 will endure?

TODAY'S PROMISE

"... the LORD who created you says,
'Do not be afraid - I will save you.
I have called you by name - you are mine.
When you pass through deep waters,
I will be with you;
your troubles will not overwhelm you.
When you pass through fire,
you will not be burned;
the hard trials that come will not hurt you.
For I am the LORD your God,
the holy God of Israel,
who saves you...'"

KEEP YOUR SANITY

We live in an increasingly more complicated and complex time.
You know as well as I, the result is more stress, strain, tension
and confusion.  And the news is full of incidents where people
"have lost it", that is, their sanity.

Jesus was often under more strain than you or I can imagine.
Some times the crowds were so great and demanding on
his time he could not even eat.

But he coped with it.

HOW?

"But he would go away to lonely places,
where he prayed."
(Luke 5:16 GNT)

Simple,
He got alone with God the Father.

Some times he went to the mountains.
Some times into the wilderness.
And some times into the desert.
Or even into a boat to cross the lake.
And he prayed.

But I live in town.
No problem.

Jesus told us when we pray to
go into our room and close the door.
Then pray to the Father in secret.

Just like when you were courting,
you wanted alone with the one you loved.

Is this old world tearing you up?

Find some place to get alone with God,
then pray and snuggle up to Him.
He will recalibrate your compass,
reboot your computer and
refocus your lens.

Like the old song says;

"Blessed quietness,
holy quietness,
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea,
He speaks peace to me,
How the billows cease to roll!"

WHY CHRIST CAME.

"The Sovereign LORD has
filled me with his Spirit.
He has chosen me and sent me
to bring good news to the poor,
To heal the broken-hearted,
to announce release to captives
and freedom to those in prison.
He has sent me to proclaim
That the time has come
When the LORD will save
his people
And defeat their enemies.
He has sent me to comfort
all who mourn,
To give to those who mourn in Zion
Joy and gladness instead of grief,
A song of praise instead of sorrow...."
(Isaiah 61:1-3 GNT)

LIVING LIKE AN ARMADILLO

Have you noticed how much people are like armadillos?

Armadillos have poor eyesight.  They often bump into things
and they spend their time running around with their nose to the
ground.  So, they eat; insects, grubs, ants, termites and worms.

Just like this guy.  He nearly ran into me.  I would have been
a real danger to him, if I had not been in a good mood.

Why! with my number ten boot I could have taught him who
pays the taxes on the property.

Just like the armadillo, God gave us two eyes.  But do we
use them?  There is real danger in this old world, and the
world to come.  But most people ignore them while going
on grubbing around with things of this world.  And a diet of
the things this world has to offer us - will send us to a Devil's
hell.

Jesus said,
"You have eyes - can't you see?
You have ears - can't you hear?"
(Mark 8:18 GNT)
