who have not even reached retirement
yet. But some of us older folks need
encouragement too.
Thursday of last week a brother in the
Lord turned ninety-two (92). Being the
pastor's grandfather, the pastor had him
preach. He has being preaching for the
Lord seventy-three years now. And still
out preaches most of the young preachers.
This brother over the years has been used
to bring hundreds to Jesus Christ. Praise
God for that. But one of the discouraging
things about it is that literally hundreds
that he won to Christ were "church members".
Yes, some of the converts were even preachers
who had never had an encounter with the living
God. It is such a sad commentary on the church
of today.
Just being in the presence of someone that
old - still on fire for Jesus - and being used of
God yet is an encouragement.
I pray that with God's help I might be on fire
for Jesus Christ as long as he gives me breath.
"The righteous will flourish
like palm trees;
they will grow like the
cedars of Lebanon.
They are like trees planted
in the house of the
Lord,
that flourish in the
Temple of our God,
that still bear fruit
in old age
and are always green and
strong."
-Psalms 92:12-14 TEV

Luther, that is so true. Our pastor told us about this gentleman that attends our church who has to be in his mid to late 80's and he has decided to learn Spanish. The pastor asked him why he wanted to learn and he said in case he went to Mexico. The pastor then said why do you want to go to Mexico...and he said, so I can preach in Spanish.
I can't help but feel that our senior citizens (and I'm now among them) are all too often overlooked, or shoved to the margins of life. How sad. It wasn't always that way.
No matter what, as your blog typifies, we can ENCOURAGE each other, and all the more so as we see His return drawing nearer.
Praying that we that are called by His name are ready and on fire, in season and out!

Luther,
My dad is 84 yrs. old and is still the one many churches call when they need help with their sound-systems or wiring for microphones, etc.
My mom is in her 70's and STILL has a burdened heart to share Jesus with the little one's in her neighborhood.
The fire in many grows stronger with every passing year.
Don't ya just love Jesus and how He ignites a life?
Thank you for sharing this.
Deb
