ARE YOU POOR?

 Are you poor?

I know.  I know.  Even those of us who have more than enough consider ourselves poor
because we have less than someone else.

I have read the Bible over many times.  One thing stands out all through the Bible.
God has a special concern for the poor.
Perhaps that is why he allowed so many of them.

If we will allow our "need" to cause us to look to God.
Then we can be a way ahead of the rich in this life and especially life to come.

Consider two scripture portions.
"And now, you rich people, listen to me!
Weep and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you!
Your riches have rotted away, and your clothes have been eaten by moths.
Your gold and silver are covered with rust,
and this rust will be a witness against you and will eat up your flesh like fire.
You have piled up riches in these last days."
-James 5:1-3 (GNB)

But there is more.
"Listen, my dear friends!
God chose the poor people of this world to be rich in faith
and to possess the kingdom
which he promised to those who love him."
-James 2:5 (GNB)

Keep your riches.
Give me Jesus.

Amen!

Years ago, on my way home from work, I'd often go out of my way to grab groceries at a store located in the midst of a very poor neighborhood. I saw the exercise as an eye-opener, one that always reminded me that blessings rarely come in the form of bling.

Such a great reminder!
