THE CAT

One of the things my wife does is pet sit.  It works well
for her and pays well also.  For about the last week she
has been taking care of an elderly lady's cats.  In this case
the wife just drops by once a day and takes care of all the
cat needs.

Earlier this week my wife stopped by to take care of the
cats as we were on our way to a funeral.  The old lady
lives in a large expensive house in a gated community.
One of the things that got my attention was that there was
lots of room in the house.  It was vary spacious.  Not packed
with furniture or filled with all kinds of stuff.  Just very
simple.  I loved it.

In the process of getting me in [and out of her way] we
accidentally left the kitchen door open to the garage and
one of the garage doors was up about eight or ten inches.
The lady has six cats and a number of them had found their
way into the garage.  But one of the cats could not be located.

My wife has hunted for that cat for four days now.  All to
no avail.  We both have been praying over the matter.  It
is a serious matter to us to take care of peoples pets and
then loose them.  So a lot of prayer and hunting has gone
into finding that cat.

My wife left a note of apology to the lady who was to
come home today.  The elderly lady called my wife to
tell her she was home and ALL of the cats were there.

We do not know if that cat was hiding on a chandelier,
or if God opened the front door and pushed it in.  But as
far as we are concerned, God answered our prayers.

PRAISE GOD FOR RETURNING A CAT.

TRUST

O.K!
So it's a shaggy old cat.  So what?

Yes, it's getting old and shaggy.  It leaves hair
all over the place.  I do not know how old it is.
But the wife and I were a whole lot younger
when she came dragging it home.
But that's not the point.

Notice that it is asleep right in the middle of
the floor.  That cat spends lots of time sleeping
right in the way - where we walk.

Why?
Because it has learned to trust us.  It knows
that we will not step on it intentionally.
It just simply trusts us.

That is what God wants us to do.
Just simply trust Him.
From one cover of the Bible to the other.
God asks us to TRUST Him.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit."
(Jeremiah17:7-9 NKJV)

"Therefore humble yourselves under the
mighty hand of God, that He may exalt
you in due time,
casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you."
(1 PETER 5:6,7 NKJV)

SHAMED BY A CAT

That is my normal view of the wife's cat.
It is her cat, but it keeps hanging around me.
And really, I would just as soon it went somewhere else.

So!

The crazy cat wants to be with me, and I don't even feed it.
I don't even want to bother with it.  [I know, that's mean of me.]
Did you know, God is not like me.  He wants us to hang around
with him.  To bother him.  In fact, God practically begs us to
come and spend time with him.  But, we would rather do other
things.

My desire should be like that of the Psalmist;

"As a deer longs for a stream of cool water,
so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for you, the living God..."
(Psalms 42:1,2a TEV)

Does this cat want to be with me more than I want to be
with my very creator?  The one who gives me life and
loved me enough to die for me.

Shame on me.

WHY ???

WHY?

The wife's cat seems to always be in my way.

When I get up in the morning it gets in the door
as I come through.  If I am not careful, I'll trip.
When I am at the dinner table, it's hanging around
the table.  If I use the recliner to take a nap, it is on
the floor in front of the recliner.  No matter where I
go in the house, the cat is there.
WHY?

In the picture above.
I was waiting a few minutes before going to the
funeral of a friend.  I looked down and the cat
had gotten in between my feet and settled down.
WHY?

Finally it dawned on me.  The cat wants to be
with me.  Why?, I don't know.  But apparently
it does.

Then the Lord brought something else to my mind.
Why don't I want to be with God as much as the
cat wants to be with me?????????

Some day we will all take a final ride in one of these.
Or something used for the same purpose.  And when
we do - you can be sure that we had better be on a
"first name" bases with our creator and life sustainer.

How much do I want to be with God now?
If I don't want to be with him now, he is not
going to want me with him then.

"So then, submit yourselves to God.
Resist the Devil, and he will run away
from you.  Come near to God, and he
will come near to you.  Wash your hands
you sinners!  Purify your hearts you
hypocrites!"
(James 4:7,8 GNB)
