TODAY'S PROMISE

"But you belong to God, my dear children.
You have already won a victory over those
people, because the Spirit who lives in you is
greater than the spirit who lives in the world."
(1 John 4:4 NLT)

TODAY'S PROMISE

"And I will give you a new heart, and I will put
a new spirit in you.  I will take out your stony,
stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive
heart.  And I will put my Spirit in you so that
you will follow my decrees and be carful to obey
my regulations."
(Ezekiel 36:26,27 NLT).

TODAY'S QUOTE

"I seek the will of the Spirit of God through,
or in connection with, the Word of God.  The
Spirit and the Word must be combined.  If I
look to the Spirit alone without the Word, I
lay myself open to great delusions.  If the Holy
Spirit guides us, He will do it according to the
Scriptures and never contrary to them."

TODAY'S QUOTE

"The guidance of the Spirit is generally by gentle
suggestions or drawings, and not in violent pushes;
and it requires great childlikeness of heart to be
faithful to it.  The secret of being made willing lies
in a definite giving up of our will.  As soon as we put
our will on to God's side, He immediately takes
possession of it and begins to work in us to will and
to do of His good pleasure."

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Anyone who believes in me may come and drink!
For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water
will flow from his heart'" (When he said 'living water,"
he was speaking of the Spirit who would be given to
everyone believing in him.  But the Spirit had not
yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered
into his glory.)"
(John 7:38,39 NLT)

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Therefor dear brothers and sisters, you
have no obligation to do what your sinful
nature urges you to do.  For if you live by
its dictates, you will die.  But if through the
power of the Spirit you put to death the
deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are
 children of God."
(Romans 8:12-14 NLT)

And saves those who are crushed in spirit."
(Psalms 34:18 NASB)

WHERE GOD DWELLS

Do you ever wonder where God dwells?
Or perhaps why he is close to some people but
not others?

Through out the Holy Bible there is a truth that
keeps popping up.  And that is the attitude that
allows him to be closer to some people than others.
Consider.

"For thus says the high and exalted One
Who lives forever, whose name is Holy,
I dwell on a high and holy place,
And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit
In order to revive the spirit of the lowly
And to revive the heart of the contrite."
(Isaac 57:15 NASB)

An overdose of "self esteem" can cause
God to keep his distance from you.

you prove the doubting spirit which may be the only

TODAY'S PROMISE

"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from
the dead dwells in you,  He who raised Christ
Jesus  from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies through His spirit who dwells in
you."
(Romans 8:11 NASB)

TODAY'S PROMISE

"For he who sows to his own flesh
will from the flesh reap corruption;
but he who sows to the Spirit will
from the Spirit reap eternal life."
(Galatians 6:8 RSV)

DIE HOW MANY TIMES?

A truism

"Born once, die twice.
Born twice, die once."

That's right.

The very creator himself said,
"I am telling you the truth: no one
can see the Kingdom of God
without being born again."
(John 3:3 GNV)

He goes on to explain that we are
born physically of our human parents,
but we also need to be born again of
the Spirit.  That is the Spirit of God.
Then when we die, we go into the presence
of God himself.  Born twice, but just
die once.

But, if we are not born again of the Spirit,
when we die we will go to an eternal hell
that was prepared for the Devil, and we
will experience a "second" eternal death.
Born once, but die twice.

TODAY'S PROMISE

"But I am telling you the truth;
it is better for you that I go away,
because if I do not go, the Helper
will not come to you.  But if I
do go away, then I will send him
to you."
"When, however, the Spirit comes,
who reveals the truth about God,
he will lead you into all the truth.
He will not speak on his own authority,
but he will speak of what he hears
ad will tell you of things to come."
(John 16:7 & 13 GNT)

"The promises of the Lord can be trusted;
they are as genuine as silver refined
seven times in the furnace."
(Psalms 12:6 GNT)

1. Meditate on God's Promises.
2. Plead the Promises at the throne of Grace.
3. Act in Faith that God Will Perform His Promises.

TRUE LIFE

"But you do not live as your human
nature tells you to; instead, you live
as the Spirit tells you to - if, in fact,
God's Spirit lives in you. Whoever
does not have the Spirit of Christ,
does not belong to him. But if Christ
lives in you, the Spirit is life for you,
because you have been put right with
God, even though your bodies are
going to die because of sin.  If the Spirit
of God, who raised Jesus from death,
lives in you, then he who raised Christ
from death will also give life to your
mortal bodies by the presence of his
Spirit in you."
(Romans 8:9-11TEV)

LESSON OF THE LITTLE ENGINE

The picture is a portable generator.
[Was a portable generator???]
The rest of it is over on the bench.

It was brought into the shop because it would not start.
I just hope the man brought it to the right place.

Trying to find parts for this thing has taken some real
research.  (Yes, even with a downloaded manual.)  It
is beginning to appear that the generator is a product of
a factory over in China.  Thus far I have been able to
find this basic generator, with slight differences in
configuration or size, with more than one dozen brand
names, and even no name.  And in several colors; Red,
Blue, Yellow and Black.

Hey!  Just like people.  One manufacture.  God.
But a lot of different configurations and sizes.  And
distributed to a lot of different places.

It will not start because there is insufficient compression.  And,
the loss of compression is due to the abnormal wear (scuffing)
on the piston and rings.  You can see the scuffing areas on the
piston.  See the dark area at the lower left, and the larger one
in the upper right of the piston.  Also there are two smaller
ones on the other side of the piston.

In this photo you can see the scuffing even on the rings.
To get this detail I reverted to an old 2 MP Nikon CoolPix
950 camera on the shelf.  See, old stuff can still be used.

You will note that the original factory machining marks are
still on the piston.  You can even still see the knurling from
the factory.   If this were a car, it would be a low milage car
with just several thousand miles on it.

Why the premature wear?
Was it a poor product?  No, in fact after reviewing the evidence
I have gained a lot of respect for this little engine.  You see the
owner thought it was a four cycle or four stroke engine.  So he
did not put oil in the gas.  But, it was a two cycle engine.  So the
poor little engine did not have any lubrication during the ice storm
when he used it.

What's the point?
God made us to live in relationship to him.  He wants to dwell
in us.  If we do not have a relationship with him and his Spirit
dwelling in us -  we are going to be "trashed" too.  Just like
this little engine with out oiling.

BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS

"But as for you,
Christ has poured out his Spirit on you.
As long as his Spirit remains in you,
you do not need anyone to teach you.
For his Spirit teaches you about everything,
and what he teaches is true, not false.
Obey the Spirit's teaching, then
and remain in union with Christ."
(1 John 1:27 GNB)

Books, books and more books.
I LOVE BOOKS.

Over the years there have been two things I could not pass up.
Books and tools.

I have had hundreds of books.
Most of these books have been either spiritual in content,
or instructional.
[You think I should have read more of them.  I probably should have!]

One of these books - EXPERIENCING THE DEPTHS OF
JESUS CHRIST - by Jeanne Guyon
has a thought I want to look into more deeply
and pass on to you.

One of her chapters is written for illiterates,
people who cannot read.
That's right.  She wrote a chapter for people who cannot read.
She intended that someone who could read, would read it to
someone who could not read.

The essence of that chapter is,
you do not need to suffer spiritually because you cannot read.
On page fifteen she says,

"The first thing you must learn, dear friend,
is that 'the kingdom of God is within you.'
(Luke 17:21)

"Never look for the kingdom anywhere but there,
within.  Once you have realized that the kingdom of God is
within you and can be found there, just come to the Lord."

The apostle Paul seems to concur with this,
that is, if you are a "real" Christian and
the Spirit of God is in you.

"But you do not live as your human nature tells you to:
instead, you live as the Spirit tells you to -
if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you.
Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ
 does not belong to him."
(Romans 8:9 GNB)

"Surely you know that you are God's temple
and that God's Spirit lives in you!
.... For God's" temple is holy, and you
yourselves are his temple."
(1 Corinthians 3:16, 17 GNB)

"Don't you know that your body is the temple
of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you
and who was given to you by God?"
(1 Corinthians 6:19 GNB)

Is it possible that those of us who love books
may be looking the wrong place for our guidance.
That is, other people rather than the "Spirit" that
is within us.

Of course, if it is not God's Spirit in us,
we are in trouble anyway and would only
be mislead further.

Books are good.
But are books causing us to miss the best?

"My child, there is something else to watch out for.
There is no end to the writing of books,
and too much study will wear you out."
(Ecclesiastes 12:12 GNB)
