HOW TO MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF

More wisdom from the wisest man that
ever lived - king Solomon.

"As you enter the house of God, keep your
ears open and your mouth shut.  It is evil to
make mindless offerings to God.  Don't make
rash promises, and don't be hasty in bringing
matters before God.  After all, God is in heaven
and you are here on earth.  So let your words
be few.
Too much activity gives you restless dreams;
too many words make you a fool. "
(Ecclesiastes 5:1 -3 NLT)

Solomon carries it even  further in his book
of Proverbs;

"Too much talk leads to sin.
Be sensible and keep your mouth shut."
(Proverbs 10:19 NLT)

So, Solomon's advise is;

"Even fools are thought wise when they
keep silent; with their mouths shut,
they seem intelligent."
(Proverbs 17:28 NLT).

But more importantly than even Solomon
is God's warning about the time everyone
of us is going to stand before him in judgment.

"And I tell you this, you must give an account
on judgment day for every idle word you speak.
The words you say will either acquit you or
condemn you."
(Matthew 12:36,37 NLT).

MORE FUTILITY

More wisdom from Solomon.

"So I decided to compare wisdom with foolishness
and madness (for who can do this better than I
the king).  I thought, 'Wisdom is better than
foolishness, just as light is better than darkness.
For the wise can see where they are going, but
fools walk in the dark.'  Yet I saw that the wise
and the foolish share the same fate."
(Ecclesiastes 2:12 - 14 NLT)

No matter how wise you or I are.  Nor how
foolish the other person is, we all will share
the same fate,  that is, the grave and having
to answer to God who gave us life.

Again our focus needs to be on our appointment
with the day we stand before our maker - God.

"I came to hate all my hard work here on earth,
for I must leave to others everything I have earned."
(Ecclesiastes 2:18 NLT)

Just an observation here.  I probably have lived
longer than you have and may have seen something
more often as a result.  But you have seen it too.

MOST INHERITANCES ARE PLAIN AND
SIMPLE SQUANDERED.

There was an old saying when I was growing
up that said;

"Grandpa earned it.
Son held it.
Grandson lost it."

Really, do I need to say anything more.

"So I decided there is nothing better than to
enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction
in work.  Then I realize that these pleasures
are from the hand of God."
 (Ecclesiastes 2:24 NLT)

More observations on my part.

I personally do not believe in "retirement".
It will cause an early demise if nothing else.
But mankind was not made to retire.

I know, I am retired.  I worked until I was 75
years old and only retired then because the
company I worked for shutdown.  That was
many years ago.  And in the work I was involved
in nobody wanted an old man.

So, I volunteer and stay busy all I can depending
on my health at the time.

However, many years ago I noticed that most
retired people are "BORED".  So they are always
looking for something to do.

My best friend retired the earliest he possibly could.
You guessed it.  He comes over to visit and see if
there is something he can do.

There is a satisfaction in doing things.  The satisfaction
for accomplishing something can be ever bit as
satisfying, or more, as wining some kind of game or
other that actually accomplishes nothing.

TODAY'S QUOTE

"Wisdom is the right use of knowledge.
To know is not to be wise.  Many men
know a great deal and are all the greater
fools for it.  There is no fool so great a
fool as a knowing fool.  But to know how
to us knowledge is to have wisdom."
- Charles H. Spurgeon

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Greed causes fighting;
trusting the LORD leads to prosperity.
Those who trust their own insight are
foolish, but anyone who walks in
wisdom is safe."

DECEIVED

Image courtesy of: www.Pixabay.com

"Your wisdom and your knowledge, they have deluded you;"
(Isaiah 47:10 NASB)

These people he was talking to felt smart, secure and
even had power in their spells.

But, they are roasting in the Devil's hell today.

I have to ask myself.  Is my wisdom something I have
figured out by myself?  Or, is it based on the revealed
Word of God, the Holy Bible?

SMART, OH SO SMART

SMART, OH SO SMART

For  many years I worked as an automotive
technician in a university town.  It was a
Lincoln Mercury dealership.  This resulted
in a good number of our customers being
"professors" or "administrators" from the
University.

One day I was sent up to the University to
help one of the "professors" get his car started.
[I do not know what he "professed".]

I had to show him how to turn the ignition
switch all the way over to the start position.

Give the man credit.  It did not take him
too long to grasp the concept.

"Be not wise in your own eyes;"
(Proverbs 3:7 RSV)

I know another very very intelligent man.
BUT, he can not seem to do the simplest
task correctly.  Perhaps he is too smart.
Of course, he would not want that fact
pointed out to him.

"Claiming to be wise, they become
fools,"
(Romans 1:22 RSV)

I am beginning to thank God that I am not
too smart.

THE FOUNDATION OF KNOWLEDGE

and instruction."

TO SMART FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

So you have the "truth" all figured out.

But, does "truth" agree with you?

"Your wisdom and knowledge
led you astray,"
(Isaiah 47:10 GNT)

"So Jesus said to those who believed
in him, 'If you obey my teaching,
you are really my disciples; you
will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free.'"
(John 8:31,32 GNT)

It is time to get out of your little mind
and into the one book that can give you
the truth,
The Holy Bible.

THE WISDOM OF MAN

God gave us a brain.
But when some pseudo scientist
takes the facts and arranges them
in the order he wants, adding lots of
guessing to up make his own fairy tale -

That's artificial intelligence.

WHAT REALLY COUNTS

All my life I have wanted to be an expert at something.
Almost anything.  But I never made it.

After a long life (A few months shy of four score years.)
I realized that no mortals are experts at anything.
Some are only better guessers than others.
The only true expert at anything is God himself.

I was not endowed with a lot of strength.
Just sufficient for my task.  The gym might
have been a help.  But that just looks like paying
out good money to work up a sweat, and does
not put any bread on the table.

Riches are fickle and fleeting.
If you watch the news over a period of time
you will notice that riches do not satisfy,
at least for very long.

So what does count????

God said,

"The wise should not boast of their wisdom,
nor the strong of their strength,
nor the rich of their wealth.
If any want to boast,
they should boast that they know and understand me,
because my love is constant,
and I do what is just and right.
These are the things that please me."
(Jeremiah 9:23,24 TEV)

Consequently,
with God's help I want to spend the remainder of
my days becoming better acquainted with God.
That is what really counts.

LED ASTRAY

"You felt sure of yourself in your evil;
you thought that no one could see you.
Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray,
and you said to yourself,
'I am God - there is no one else like me.;

SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE

"To have knowledge,
you must first have reverence for the LORD,
Stupid people have no respect for wisdom
and refuse to learn."

LEARNING FROM NATURE

"Even the birds and animals
have much they could teach you;

"ask the creatures of earth
and sea for their wisdom.

It is like the song says,

"O LORD my God!
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hand hath made;
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to thee,
How great Thou art!  How great Thou art!"

TRUE WISDOM

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom:
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
and the years of your life will be increased.
If you will be wise,
you will be wise for yourself:
but if you scorn, you alone will bear it."
(proverbs 9:10-12 AKJV)

WHAT TO TAKE SATISFACTION IN

"Thus says the LORD,
'Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
neither let the mighty man glory in his might,
let not the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness,
judgment, and righteousness, in the earth;
for in these things I delight, says the LORD."
(Jeremiah 9:23,24 AKJV)

SOURCE OF WISDOM

"O how I love your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You through your commandments
have made me wiser than my enemies;
for they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers;
for your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients because I
keep your precepts.
I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep your word.
I have not departed from your judgments;
for you have taught me.
How sweet are your words to my taste,
yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth.
Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet,
and a light to my path."
(Psalms 119:97-105 AKJV)

GOD TO THE RESCUE - AGAIN

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths."
-Proverbs 3:5,6 RSV

I use eBay sometimes when there is something that
cannot be acquired locally, or I do not want to pay
the new price.

My habit is to keep track of the item I'm interested in. Then if the bidding
is to my liking, jump in at the last minute.If I win the bid, I want to pay as
soon as I win. Then I "Owe no one anything," and can forget the whole
process until the item shows up at my door step.

My last purchase was not quit that simple. ( Yes I had prayed about it.
And possibly, like yourself, it was more to get the Lord's permission than
to find his will.) After winning the bid I tried to pay. And tried to pay.
And tried to pay. The seller's system simply would not except my input.
What should have been about three clicks of a mouse and a password
had grown to forty-five minutes of frustration. (Yes I'm an old, OLD
man.) I finally gave up in total exasperation.

Later in the day while burning trash I sat on a log and prayed even more
fervently. The Lord put a thought in my mind. So I went up to the house,
pulled out the lap top, and tried the idea.

You know as well as I do what happened. First time it went right through.
I had been relying on my insights instead of properly acknowledging HIM.
We have a great, wonderful, loving God who wants to lead us aright - if we
will but let him.

HOW TO GET WISDOM

"How I love your law!
I think about it all day long.
Your commandment is with me all the time
and makes me wiser than my enemies.
I understand more than all my teachers,
because I meditate on your instructions.
I have greater wisdom than those who are old,
because I obey your commands.
I have avoided all evil conduct,
because I want to obey your word.
I have not neglected your instructions,
because you yourself are my teacher.
How sweet is the taste of your instructions -
sweeter even than honey!
I gain wisdom from your laws,
and so I hate all bad conduct."
-Psalms 119:97-104 TEV
