HAPPINESS IS...

in pleasure

"Lord Byron lived a life of pleasure and ease.

He wrote:

'The worm, the canker and grief are mine alone.'"

Well perhaps in political Power.

"William Tweed became the brilliant boss

of Tammany Hall and ruled New York City,

He said: 'My life has been a failure in everything.'"

Possibly in military strength.

"Alexander the Great conquered the known

world of his day.  Then he wept:

'There are no more worlds to conquer.'"

How about atheism and a total disregard

for God Almighty?

"Voltaire was a world-class unbeliever.

He wrote:

'I wish I had never been born.'"

Well, then Fame and Position.

"Lord Beaconsfield enjoyed more than

his share of both.  He wrote:

"Youth is a mistake; manhood a struggle;

old age a regret.'

Then happiness certainly must be in money.

"Jay Gould, the American millionaire,

had an enormous fortune.  When dying,

he said, 'I suppose I am the most miserable

man on earth.'"

But Jesus Christ said,

"Happy are those whose

greatest desire is to do

what God requires;

God will satisfy them fully!"

(Matthew 5:6 GNT)  

  

POOR RICH PEOPLE

"Watch out and guard yourselves 

from every kind of greed;

because your true life is not

made up of the things you 

own, no matter how rich 

you may be"

(Luke 12:15 GNT)

"Worldly wealth is the devil's bait;

and those whose minds feed upon riches,

recede in general from real happiness, in

proportion as their stores increase; as

the moon, when she is fullest of light,

is farthest from the sun."

A HAPPY NEW YEAR IS POSSIBLE

We live in one of the worst, most evil times of modern

history.  Looking at the news and the way mankind is

going, things look totally hopeless.  A very bleak future.

Wars all around the world.  The very nature of the human

race rebelling against every one and everything.  And a 

hatred against anything that is Godly.

Jesus Christ [Remember.  We celebrated his birth about

a week ago.  Though few know Jesus was the reason for

the season.] told us more than two thousand years ago

that this day we live in was coming.  It is here, and it 

will get much worse, he said so.

But still;

A HAPPY NEW YEAR IS POSSIBLE.

HOW SO?

A couple of thousand years ago God sent some 

real, live, genuine angels with an announcement. 

"...but the angel said to them,

'Don't be afraid!

I am here with good news for you,

which will bring great joy to all people.

This very day in David's town your Savior

was born - Christ the Lord!'"

(Luke 2:10, 11 GNT)

That is what we celebrated last week.

But Christ not only told us these terrible days

were coming, but he told his disciples 

- of all the ages - that:

"Peace is what I leave with you;

it is my own peace that I give you.

I do not give it as the world does.

Do not be worried and upset;

do not be afraid.  You heard me 

say to you, 'I am leaving , but I 

will come back to you.'"

(John 14:27,28a GNT)

If we will stop going our own way

and doing our own thing and 

turn to Jesus Christ taking him as

our LORD and savior,  giving him

complete control over our lives.

He will give us that personal peace,

joy and happiness that we so 

desperately long for.

LET JESUS GIVE YOU A

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

YOUR HEART'S DESIRE

"Seek your happiness in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart's desire.

Give yourself to the LORD;
trust in him and he will help you;
he will make your righteousness shine
like the noonday sun."
(Psalms 37:4,5 GNT)

"Would you like to enjoy life?
Do you want long life and happiness?

GETTING YOUR DESIRES

Why is the little girl smiling?

Because she knew her picture was being taken.

And your supposed to smile when your picture is taken.

Plus,  we will hope that being on the way to church with

Bible in hand was an influence also.

And yes,

she does smile when she gets what she wants,

at least temporarily just like you do.

But do you have a frown or a look of despair instead?

Are you tired of working and fighting to get the things you

want out of life?

All to no avail. 

There is an easier way.

"Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires

of your heart."

(Psalms 37:4 NRSV)

Or as another version says;

"Seek your happiness in the Lord,

and he will give you your

heart's desire."

(Psalms 37:4 GNB)

WARNING.

If you truly begin to delight or seek your happiness

in God.  Your desires may change for something

even better.  And you will find a happiness and 

contentment that will stay with you all the time.

You have a choice.

You can work hard at it yourself,

and get frustrated.

Or,

find you your happiness in God

and let him do it for you.

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Seek your happiness in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart's desire."
(Psalms 37:4 GNB)

"The promises of the Lord can be trusted;

they are as genuine as silver refined

seven times in the furnace."

(Psalms 12:6 GNB)

1. Meditate on God's Promises.

2. Plead the Promises at the throne of Grace.

3. Act in Faith that God Will Perform His Promises.

LONGING FOR SOMETHING?

If you are a parent, you will understand what I am trying

to say.  You want your child to have everything they want -

IF IT IS GOOD FOR THEM.

I'm old enough now that it's grandkids and great grandkids.

In fact they know how to "butter up" [manipulate] grandpa to get about

anything he can afford - if it is good for them.

Do you want to know how to move the heart of God -

to get what you want - if it is good for you?

"Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart."

-Psalms 37:4 (RSV)

How do I delight in the Lord?

Webster says delight as a verb means;

"l : to take great pleasure

2 : to give keen enjoyment ... 

to give joy or satisfaction to"

So,

take great pleasure in the Lord.

Find your enjoyment in the Lord.

Find your satisfaction in the Lord.

Or, 

"Seek your happiness in the Lord,

and he will give you your heart's desire."

WARNING: Your desires might change.
