TRAPPED

TRAPPED

That's right.
This raccoon was caught in the act and trapped,
caged, locked in - where it should not have been.
[For you animal lovers I hauled it so far off it could
not find it's way back and released it in the woods.]

What was the bait used to catch it.  The same bait
that catches you, food.

That is about where the human race began.
After God created the first humans he told
them not to eat from that one tree.  But you
know as well as I what happened.  He said
"don't" so they did.  "When the woman saw
that the tree was good for food,...".   You
know the rest of the story.  The human race
has been in trouble ever since.

When I was a young man (many decades ago.)
they used to say, "The way to a man's heart is
through his stomach."  And I remember the
batch of  chocolate chip cookies in the bottom
of my foot locker in the Navy.  TRAPPED.

Or consider how many an obese person has
died a premature death.   Am I picking on
food.  Not really.  I like to eat as well as you
do.  If we don't keep eating we will be in
serious trouble.

But right now I am  thinking of food more
as a temptation.  Or some other temptation
could just as well be the bait that traps us.
Is it any wonder that Jesus Christ said;

"Keep watching and praying that you
may not enter into temptation; the
spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
(Matthew 26:41 NASB)

I like the way John Dryden said it;

"Better shun the bait than struggle in
the snare."

THE CAT AND MOUSE GAME

You have seen it too.  Well, that is if your wife has a cat.
The cat may even be well fed.  Not hungry at all.  But
explain that to the hapless mouse it catches.

The cat by nature is a hunter and when it catches the
mouse - that mouse is in trouble.  The cat will throw the
mouse around, bat it around, pounce on it and antagonize
it every way possible.  It will ignore the mouse just daring
it to try getting away.

What's the point?

You and I have an enemy that wants to destroy us just
as the cat will ultimately destroy the mouse.  It is Satan
the enemy of our souls and every thing that is of God.
God sent us a warning saying;

"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert.
Your adversary, the devil, prowls
around like a roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour."
(1 Peter 5:8 NASV)

What are some of the traps the Devil sets for us?
The Bible describes some of Satan's traps as:

"Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which
are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry
sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of
anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying,
drunkenness, carousing, and things like these,
of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned
you, that those who practice such things will not
inherit the kingdom of God."
(Galatians 5:19 - 21 NASB)

What can we do to avoid being destroyed by
the multitude of traps the Devil has for us.
I want to say - "Well nothing."  We do not
have the strength within our selves to fight
back.  But God gives us the answer.

"Submit therefore to God.  Resist the
devil and he will flee from you."
(James 4:7 NASB)

TODAY'S PROMISE

"Be careful not to let yourselves become
occupied with too much feasting and drinking
and with the worries of this life, or that Day
may suddenly catch you like a trap.  For it will
come upon all people everywhere on earth.  Be
on watch and pray always that you will have the
strength to go safely through all those things that
will happen and to stand before the Son of Man."

******************
"The promises of the Lord can be trusted;
they are as genuine as silver refined
seven times in the furnace."
(Psalms 12:6 GNT)

1. Meditate on God's Promises.
2. Plead the Promises at the throne of Grace.
3. Act in Faith that God Will Perform His Promises.
(William Gurnall)
(Luke 21:34-36 GNT)
