OUR SOURCE OF STRENGTH

Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God came
to earth and took on the form of a man.  The
very creator of the universe took on a body like
you and I have.  Then he lived without sinning.

Before Jesus ever came to earth he knew what
he was going to suffer for us.  And yet, with all
the rejection by the religious people of his day
and most of the world.  Then the agony of the
cross, how did he do it?  Where did he get the
power to do what he did?

Here's how;

"But Jesus Himself would often slip away
to the wilderness and pray."
(Luke 5:16 NASB)

If Jesus himself needed prayer how much
more do you think that we need to slip away
somewhere and get alone with God in prayer.

ANOTHER DESPERATE PRAYER ANSWERED

My problem was with a motorcycle.  No, not the one above.
That one is a Honda made into a "cafe racer".  The one I got
into trouble with was an old Kawasaki from the same era as
the Honda above.

I had bought the Kawasaki in a non running condition from
a friend.  It was a shaft drive [Not chain like the one above.]
I wanted to make  it into a cross country motorcycle that I
would not have to spend all my time lubing the chain.

My trouble began with my pride.  Where my friend had not
been able to get it started, I wanted to be able to tell him I got
it started with no trouble.  The Scriptures tell us, "Pride goes
before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."
and I was about to fall.

My mistake was trying to cheat using too much starting
fluid.  It back fired catching number one carb. on fire.
[That would be the carb. the closest in the photo above.]
So there I was with the carb. on fire and flames going
up around the gas tank that was half full of gas.

I could not see my fire extinguisher so I tried blowing
it out.  I have used that trick in the past, but this time
it only singed my eye brows.  Then I took an old rag
and started trying to beat out the flames while looking
for my fire extinguisher.

I finally spotted my fire extinguisher.   I pulled the pin
and squeezed the trigger.  NOTHING.  It had been in
the shop too long and lost it's charge.

Back to trying to beat the fire out, but it was not working.
By this time I was ready to push the motorcycle out
the door and let it burn up.

The problem there was my car was just outside the door
and if I pushed it further it would go down the hill
next to the house.   By now I was getting really, really
tired trying to beat the fire away from the tank.

In desperation I simply cried out,
"Jesus help me."

The fire went out in an instant.

"The prevailing idea seems to be, that I come to God
and ask Him for something that I want, and that I
expect Him to give me that which I have asked.  But
this is a most dishonoring and degrading concept-
ion.  The popular belief reduces God to a servant,
our servant: doing our bidding, performing our
pleasure, granting our desires.  No, prayer is a com-
ing to god, telling Him my need, committing my
way unto the Lord, and leaving Him to deal with it
as seemeth Him best."

THE STOVE

My wife cleans houses by choice.  At her age  I wish
she  would go ahead and retire.  But she wants to continue.
Her claim is that it makes her get up and go where she
would be come a couch potato other wise and truly she
enjoys doing it.  [I do notice that she also loves to shop.]

My wife is a woman who has a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ.  Not just religious, or churchy, but
a real vital relationship with Jesus.  The result is that
she prays about every thing, and especially trouble.

A short time ago she was cleaning house for some
people up by the country club.  When trying to put
a pot or pan away above their kitchen stove she
dropped the pan on the stove.  You guessed it, it is
a stove with some type of glass top.  It broke a small
place in the glass.  She said the Devil tempted her to
not tell them.  But being a woman of God she prayed
and decided to tell them what happened and offered
to pay for the damages.

She went and got the husband and wife telling
them what happened.  Both the husband and wife
just begin laughing.   The stove was obsolete and had
several problems that parts could not be acquired for.
So, they were planing to get another one anyway.

My wife came home thanking and praising God.

The next time she when to this home to clean
they met her with a hug.  It had prompted them
to go ahead and do their stove shopping.  By
going shopping when they did they came across
a stove they were very happy with that had been
ordered by someone and never picked up.  They
were able to get it at the dealers cost and saved
a large amount of money.

You can bet my wife will continue praying to
the one who gives her life and help in times
of trouble.

THE CAT

One of the things my wife does is pet sit.  It works well
for her and pays well also.  For about the last week she
has been taking care of an elderly lady's cats.  In this case
the wife just drops by once a day and takes care of all the
cat needs.

Earlier this week my wife stopped by to take care of the
cats as we were on our way to a funeral.  The old lady
lives in a large expensive house in a gated community.
One of the things that got my attention was that there was
lots of room in the house.  It was vary spacious.  Not packed
with furniture or filled with all kinds of stuff.  Just very
simple.  I loved it.

In the process of getting me in [and out of her way] we
accidentally left the kitchen door open to the garage and
one of the garage doors was up about eight or ten inches.
The lady has six cats and a number of them had found their
way into the garage.  But one of the cats could not be located.

My wife has hunted for that cat for four days now.  All to
no avail.  We both have been praying over the matter.  It
is a serious matter to us to take care of peoples pets and
then loose them.  So a lot of prayer and hunting has gone
into finding that cat.

My wife left a note of apology to the lady who was to
come home today.  The elderly lady called my wife to
tell her she was home and ALL of the cats were there.

We do not know if that cat was hiding on a chandelier,
or if God opened the front door and pushed it in.  But as
far as we are concerned, God answered our prayers.

PRAISE GOD FOR RETURNING A CAT.

LOST AND FOUND

Over the years I have learned to rely on pray a lot.
I have had literally dozens of answers to pray.  Far
too many to be merely chance or luck.

Yesterday I was working on a small carburetor off
of a weedeater or string trimmer or what ever you
chose to call it.  It was about one third the size of
the carburetor pictured above.  It has a extremely
small needle valve hooked to a very small lever
with a extremely small spring under the lever.

The parts were so small that I was working
with a pair of tweezers.  You of course know
what happened.  The spring flew out from under
the lever and went to who knows where.  I did
see the direction it went, and that was all.

After hunting for a while I again resorted to
praying.  Shortly the Lord helped me to find
the little spring.  So the process started all
over again.

You guessed it.  The spring flew out again and
I did not even see what direction it went.  So,
I hunted all over the bench and the floor.  Even
getting a light out to be able to inspect things
more closely.  No luck.

Finally I just prayed that God would help me
to see it while I went on working at another
project there on the same bench.  So after working
a while at the other project, then going to lunch etc.
I resumed working on the other project.

It was easier for me to work on these small
projects on the bench while sitting on a stool.
When after a while I "just happened" to look
down at the floor.  And there right between
my feet was that small spring.

You know that I was thanking God again.

WHY UNANSWERED PRAYER

Just like yourself,
I have heard for years that all prayers are answered.
You know, some are yes, some are no, some are wait.

But is it that simple?
I read this the other day when reading out at my
hide out.  It was very quiet and peaceful.  I was
having a good time reading God's word when
He threw this at me.

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not so short
That it cannot save;
Nor is His ear so dull
That it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His face from you
so that He does not hear."
(Isaiah 59:1,2 NASB)

Ouch!

IT'S JUST TALK

You know people that way.
They say they are going to do a lot of things or
make promises and none are ever fulfilled.
It's just talk.

This morning while reading my Bible I read of
a woman who had a need.   To her it was a real,
hurting, desperate need.  And her prayer was a
prayer of desperation.  Of course God answered
it.

That made me reflect back over a long life and
the answers to pray.  True, many of my prayers
are answered that are simple little prayers with
out much thought.  But the ones that were  answered
with a pure miracle from heaven it's self were
desperate prayers.  Not just talk, or chatter, but
a prayer of desperation to God almighty.

A few years ago I was in the barber shop waiting
my turn.  I was talking with one of the local
pastors and he told me that every miracle that
he personally knew about was the result of a
desperate prayer.

What's the point.
When you pray, if you do, are you just talking,
or serious and getting ahold of alrighty God?

ANXIETY CURE

If you are a living breathing human, you have problems.
Life is filled with problems that in time can become over
bearing.  Then we become anxious and the anxiety can
nearly kill us.

So what do we do?

Consider what "a man after God's own heart" did, David.
David was not yet king.  In fact he was fleeing for his life
and living as a refuge in a neighboring country.  He and
his men had been off to war and returning home found their
families and possessions taken and the town burned to the
ground.

In their grief even his own men were beginning to talk
about killing David.  What would you do in a situation
like that?  What did David do?

"But David strengthened himself in the Lord his
God." (1 Samuel 30:6 NASB0  or as the KJV says'
"encouraged".   Take your choice.

God's word to us for today is:

"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty
hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper
time, casting all your anxiety on Him,
because He cares for you."
(1 Peter 5:6,7 NASB)

Got that?
God wants us to cry on his shoulder.
