TODAY'S PROMISE

"Love the LORD, all you godly ones!
For the LORD protects those who are
loyal to him, but he harshly punishes
the arrogant.
So be strong and courageous
all you who put your hope in the
 LORD!"
(Psalms 31:23.24 NLT)

"Don't envy sinners,
but always continue to fear the LORD,
You will be rewarded for this;

"Hope fills the afflicted soul with such inward joy
and consolation, that it can laugh while tears are in
the eye, sigh and sing all in a breath; it is called 'the
rejoicing of hope' (Hebrews 3:6)."
- William Gurnall

TODAY'S QUOTE

"Found not thy hopes on thyself but on thy God.
For if thou restest thy hopes on thyself, thy soul
is troubled within thyself, for it has not yet found
anything about thee that should make it secure."
-St. Augustine

"I am not what I ought to be.
I am not what I want to be.
I am not what I hope to be.
But still, I am not what I used to be.
And by the grace of God,
I am what I am."

And hoping means to hope when things
are hopeless."

WALKING WITH GOD.

I want God more involved in my life.
But as I search through the Scriptures
I find I must consider these requisites.

"So then, submit yourselves to God.
Resist the Devil, and he will run
away from you. Come near to God,
and he will come near to you."
(James 4:7,8 GNT)

"I am the high and holy God,
who lives forever.  I live in a high
and holy place, but I also live with
people who are humble and repentant,
so that I can restore their confidence
and hope."
(Isaiah 57:15 GNT)

"No, the Lord has told us what is
good.  What he requires of us is
this; to do what is just, to show
constant love, and to live in humble
fellowship with our God."
(Micah 6:8 GNT)
"God walks with the humble; he
reveals himself to the lowly; he
gives understanding to the little
ones; he discloses his meaning to
pure minds, but hides his grace from
the curious and the proud."
- Thos. a Kemis

LIFE

"LORD, how long will I live?
When will I die?
Tell me how soon my life will end.
How short you have made my life!
In your sight my lifetime seems nothing.
Indeed every living being is no more
than a puff of wind,
no more than a shadow
All we do is for nothing;
we gather wealth,
but don't know who will get it
What, then, can I hope for, LORD?
I put my hope in you."
(Psalms 39:4-7 GNT)

THE LORD'S MERCIES

"It is the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
great is they faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion says my soul;
therefore will I hope in him.
The LORD is good to those that wait for him,
to the soul that seeks him."
It is good that a man should both hope
and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD."
(Lamentations 3:22-26 AKJV)

PRAISE THE LORD ANYWAY

About three days ago three of the neighbor's sheep got into
our yard.  And yesterday it was seven of his sheep in our yard.

Now my opinion is that sheep are neat critters.  Also the more
they eat - the less there is to mow or trim.  Cool, right?
Bring them on neighbor.

But my wife has a different opinion.  She actually spent some
money on a bunch of plants.  Hard earned money and lots of it.
That's beyond my comprehension.  But it's a fact.

The sheep are the neighbor's.  And on that side the fence is his.
But he is a busy man.  So all I could do was say, "Yes dear.  As
soon as I come back from the barber in the morning I'll fix the fence.
[Or something like that.]
That was yesterday.

[This is the day that the Lord has made.]
This morning early on my way to town - there were thirteen sheep
in the yard.  Hey the day is just starting.

And were the fence needs repair there is a LARGE briar bush.
With lots and lots of thorns.

I rode one of my motorcycles to the barber shop.  (The old back road
one to gas it while in town.) The parking lot is on a good slope.  So
I pulled up close to the door.

When leaving I got in too big of a hurry and did not back down far
enough to get off the slope.  You guessed it.  I dumped it right there
on the slope - on the right side.

The barber helped me get it back up.  Got it on it's kick stand to
try starting it, but I was still on the slop.  It rolled forward off
the stand and dumped it on the left side this time - with my left
foot pinned under it.  (Praise God for such an exciting day.)
You can see what it did to the windshield.

And this is oil all over the right side from the broken valve cover.
Hey, PRAISE GOD I was not hurt and it rode home O.K.

Even before leaving the house I had determined to spend a little more
time in the "Word" when I got back.  So after parking the bike in the
shop I went straight into the office and started reading where I had left
off.  I read only two verses and then read,

"We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble
produces endurance, endurance brings God's approval,
and his approval creates hope."
(Romans 5:3,4 GNB)

THANK YOU JESUS FOR ALL THE ENDURANCE YOU
CREATED IN ME TODAY AND THE HOPE YOU GAVE
ME THROUGH IT.

RENEWED HOPE FROM GARLIC

I AM NOT A GARDENER.  I AM NOT A GARDENER.
I AM NOT A GARDENER.

However,
Since retirement I have been "playing" with a few plants.
(O.K.  Killed a bunch of plants.)
My favorite is garlic because it is harder for me to kill.
I have been playing with garlic for four or five years.
As a result I have learned two or three things about garlic,
if I could just remember what it was.

This year I put out several different kinds of garlic I
wanted to try.  [I know.  It works best for me in the fall.
But I am not always in the mood in the fall.]

However due to the drought, it looked like a complete loss
for several that good money had been paid for.

While walking around the "forsaken" garden plots
one day - Praise God - I found these plants.

The top picture is an "elephant" garlic that somehow
survived.

The above picture is the result of cloves brought in from
Bangkok Thailand, and promptly killed - all by myself.

This one is "Fred's" garlic.
Fred has been dead for years now.  But in a gardening effort about
20 years ago he gave me a garlic start.  He did not know what kind
of garlic it was.  Only that it was, Good.

Of course I soon gave up on my gardening efforts, including the
garlic.  But after about 20 years of total neglect, in the bushes,
under a tree, here is some "Fred's" garlic trying to go again.
Praise God.

Through this God drew my attention to the apostle Paul's comment.

"For this reason we never become discouraged.  Even though our
physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being
is renewed day after day.  And this small and temporary
trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory,
much greater than the trouble.  For we fix our attention,
not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen.
What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot
be seen lasts forever."
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18 GNB)

WHEN THE WAY SEEMS DARK

"All of you that honor the Lord
and obey the words of his servant,
the path you walk may be dark indeed,
but trust in the Lord,
rely on your God."
-Isaiah 50:10 (GNB)
